The Helsinki alternative music, or so-called world music arena seems to be coming back in full swing. During the 90s, their was a high level of activities regarding such music classified as world music, and its dramatise personae were mostly musicians of migrants extraction.
What is Music Station Club?
The Music Station Club is a monthly exhibition of world music artistes. It brings together renowned migrant musicians and their Finnish counterparts, showcasing them and their importance in the process of integration of world music to the mainstream music tradition.
This month’s event featured three artistes
MAGULAMBERRE
Rodriguez "Magulamberre" Jose is from Mozambique. He plays the traditional ‘Timbila’ a form of Marimba of the chope ethnic group of South
Mozambique. Jose started playing Timbila right from his childhood
He has living and touring around Finland since 2007. He has also conducted numerous workshops around Finland, for instance at the Sibelius Academy Folk Music Department, schools and Day Care Centres, and the Faces Festival. In addition to pulling a number of workshops mm., Sibelius Academy and in schools and day care centres.

Timbila is originally a communal celebration of music as such making Magulamberre a suitable act to open the Music Station Club.He treated the audience with intricate and exciting Timbila melodies, sending them back in time on a Timbila time machine to visit the ancestors.

BADU NDJAI
Badu Ndjai is one of the earliest musician of African origin to settle in Finland. He moved to Finland from Senegal, the country of his origin in the 1980s.. Before migrating to Finland, Badu already left his mark on the Senegalese music scene. He was a member of the renowned music ensemle, Etiole de Darkar, this was at a time when the present day icon of Senegalese Mbalax music Youssou N´dour was also a member of the ensemble. On arrival to Finland,
Badu joined the popular world music band Pirrpauke
Badu’s guitar style is a conscious combination of Finnish and musical African feelings. During the gig, the legendary Finnish guitarist cum composer, Hasse Walli, introduced Badu. In his introductory speech, Hasse reviled to the excited audience that it was Badu that taught him the rudiments of African guitar style when they first met in Senegal. Badu Ndjai treated the audience to a repertoire of his songs, clearly exhibiting his mastery of the guitar.

Meissa Niang & the DJambaar Band
styles of music as well as Finnish surprises.
Meissa Niang is Senegalese singer who have performed with many bands around the world. In Senegal, he has performed with the world-music ensembles Orchestra Baobab and Lemzo Diamono, Also in Finland with Hasse Wali & Asamaan, Goodpeople’s band, Galaxy and Piirpauke.
